PRODUCT APPLICATION:

Triacetin is used in a broad variety of different industrialapplications such as cosmetics, toiletries, pharmaceuticals, food, metalworking fluids, and etc. Properties like lubrication, mould release,consistency promotion, emolliency, stability enhancement, spreading or fatty,solvency and cleaning demonstrate the large variety of functions offered bythese unique products.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The triglyceride 1,2,3-triacetoxypropane is more generallyknown as triacetin and glycerin triacetate. It is the triester of glycerol andacetylating agents, such as acetic acid and acetic anhydride. It is acolorless, viscous and odorless liquid with a high boiling point. It is anartificial chemical compound, commonly used as a food additive, for instance asa solvent in flavourings, and for its humectant function, with E number E1518 and Australian approval code A1518. It isused as an excipient in pharmaceutical products, where it is used as ahumectant, a plasticizer, and as a solvent. Triacetin can also be used as afuel additive as an antiknock agent which can reduce engine knocking ingasoline, and to improve cold and viscosity properties of biodiesel. It hasbeen considered as a possible source of food energy in artificial food regenerationsystems on long space missions
